Qur'an 78:9 An-Naba

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًۭا

And made your sleep [a means for] rest

Saheeh International

What it says

Sleep is named as a gift, which is not how a person who wants more hours in the day thinks of it. The word chosen does not mean rest so much as being severed, the daily interruption of everything you were doing.

Word by word

وَجَعَلْنَا wa-jaʿalnā and We made · نَوْمَكُمْ nawmakum your sleep · سُبَاتًا subātan a cutting off
