Qur'an 59:21 Al-Hashr

If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.

What it says

A hypothetical measures what the Qur'an is against something solid: a mountain receiving it would not stand unmoved but would crack apart in awe. The comparison points at the human audience that does receive the Qur'an without that visible reaction, and the verse names its own method in passing, these are amthāl, examples, given so that people will think them through.
