Qur'an 74:38 Al-Muddaththir

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained

Saheeh International

What it says

Every soul is held against what it earned. Rahīnah is a pledge, the object a debtor leaves with the creditor and cannot take back until the debt is settled. The soul is the security and its own earnings are the debt.
