Qur'an 60:4 Al-Mumtahanah

There has already been for you an excellent pattern in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, "Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone" except for the saying of Abraham to his father, "I will surely ask forgiveness for you, but I have not [power to do] for you anything against Allah. Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the destination.

What it says

Abraham and those with him are set up as the pattern to follow: they told their own people plainly that they were finished with them and with what they worshipped, and that enmity between them would stand until the people believed in Allah alone. The one thing set apart from the model is Abraham's promise to ask forgiveness for his father, a private commitment made before it was clear his father stood against Allah, not a rule for how to treat an enemy. The prayer that follows, reliance on Allah and return to Him, belongs to Abraham and his companions as much as the declaration does.
