Qur'an 83:14 Al-Mutaffifin
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.

What it says
Here is the mechanism. What they did settled on their hearts the way rust settles on iron left in the damp, a layer laid down by repetition, until the surface no longer takes an impression.
